One of the first openly gay hip-hop artists. Producer. DJ. Pioneer of the homo hop movement. Two decades of unapologetic sound.
Before mainstream hip-hop even acknowledged queer voices, Tori Fixx was already on stage. One of the first openly gay rappers in the game, Fixx emerged from Minneapolis in the late 1990s with a sound that refused to compromise and lyrics that demanded to be heard.
In the mid-90s, he was DJing at parties for Prince at Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota. After a stint in San Francisco where he joined hip-hop collective Rainbow Flava, he dropped his debut album Impact in 1998 — and never looked back.
His 2004 album Marry Me was named one of The Advocate's Top 10 Indie CDs, with the title track becoming an anthem for marriage equality. He founded the label US 2, producing for fellow artists and building a platform for queer hip-hop long before the industry caught up.
Featured in the groundbreaking documentary Pick Up the Mic and appearing on The Tyra Banks Show, Fixx has been a cultural force — not just in music, but in the broader fight for visibility and representation.
